FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT TUITION
Unity Academy is an investment in the growth and development of our community and its youth. It is a sadaqah jariya that brings blessings and benefits to all members of the community. We strive to forge a sustainable balance between tuition revenue and donor contributions. Tuition alone does not cover the operating expenses of the school.
We are committed to providing a high-quality Montessori education within an Islamic environment and enriching experiences for our students. Tuition alone does not cover the operating costs of the school and increases are necessary for financial stability and for the long-term success of the institution. In particular, we draw parents’ attention to the following developments in the school’s programs:
- Visiting Islamic scholars who inspire students and bring them closer to Allah (swt), our Prophet (s) and his family (as).
- Continual investment in the professional development of our teachers
- An effort to compensate staff in a way that is competitive in the job market and commensurate with the importance of their roles.
- Regular Art and increased Physical Education classes, along with the necessary physical infrastructure, equipment, and materials
- Systematic counseling services to address the academic and behavioral needs of our students
- Reading specialist services to support early literacy skills
- Administration of a wide variety of after-school clubs, a lunch program, and aftercare.
No. Field trips are now included in the tuition. These trips are essential experiences within our curriculum, and we want to ensure that all students participate.
Every school’s context and programs differ–so comparison of different schools’ tuition is not a straightforward matter. Nevertheless, a survey of Montessori private schools in our area shows that our tuition remains competitive and offers excellent value. Many of our peer institutions have tuition that is $4000 higher or more. Furthermore, a tuition survey conducted by the American Montessori Society affirms that our fee structure is well below that of schools that offer programs of similar quality.
While we do our best to manage expenses, it is likely that tuition will increase annually to keep up with inflation and help offset rising costs. Ultimately, our school is a non-profit organization that works hard to keep the school as affordable as possible.
Yes. Unity Academy of Chicago welcomes all interested families to apply for admission regardless of their ability to pay the full tuition. Our school offers financial aid to assist families in making education affordable. Financial assistance may vary in amount and is based on the need or financial status of the family, the number of requests received, and the amount of financial aid funds that are available for a given school year. Financial aid may be applied for at any time before or after the admissions process. To ensure complete privacy, we use a third-party organization called BeneFAQ to help us accurately and fairly assess a family’s ability to pay.
Unity Academy was founded because of our community’s commitment to character development and learning. Parents and community members are encouraged to contribute to the school through donations and volunteer efforts. Many parents multiply the impact of their giving by channeling donations through Benevity, which enables corporate matching gifts.
